In this guide, I have listed the top five best places to stay in Belize. It organizes them based on your travel needs, so you can quickly find the one that’s right for you.

Belize Neighborhood Guide – Places to Stay in Belize
Belize is a small country known for its stunning beaches and amazing water sports. Backpacking Belize is an absolute dream for all snorkelling and scuba diving enthusiasts. Sitting on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Belize is a tropical paradise that welcomes travellers with its interesting history, unique culture, marvellous cuisine and incomparable nature.
The country covers an area of 22,800 square kilometres. It is divided into six districts, which are further subdivided into 31 constituencies. There is an incredible amount of things to do in Belize, so plan your time wisely!
Belize City is the largest city in the country. It is located on a small peninsula and is home to a great variety of historical, cultural and architectural attractions, as well as great food and vibrant nightlife.
Caye Caulker is a bit further North, set less than two kilometres from the Barrier Reef. It’s an absolute haven for scuba divers and snorkelers.
San Pedro is the main town in Ambergris Caye. A top destination for tourists, San Pedro offers a laid-back atmosphere, stunning views and plenty of lively bars and restaurants. The amazing hostels in Belize make it perfect for backpackers and budget travellers as well.
Corozal is on the mainland and situated near the Mexican border. Corozal is a small and friendly town with plenty to see, do and eat. From Mayan Ruins to golden sand beaches, this town caters to travellers of all kinds.
San Ignacio is a small town in central Belize set near the Guatemalan border. It is a great base for outdoor adventurers and travellers looking to visit the country’s famous Mayan Ruins.

Belize City is located on a small peninsula surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. It is the largest city in the country and is home to an array of historical, cultural and architectural attractions. Once the country’s capital city, Belize City now holds the distinction of being a hub for culinary, dining and nightlife entertainment. With so much to see, do and eat, Belize City is my number one pick for your first visit to Belize.
This is also one of the best-connected cities in the country. Home to a robust network of planes, buses and automobiles, from Belize City you can head out and explore almost anywhere in the country with relative ease.
Staying central is pretty much the best thing you can do if you’re visiting Belize City for the first time. As I mentioned above, the public transport system is going to make it a breeze to get around the city, and into other parts of the country without a problem. If you’re travelling on a budget, choosing a Belize City hostel rather than a hotel might be your best option to keep some money in your pocket.

Best Airbnb in Belize City: Sir Angel’s Guesthouse
If you’re looking for an affordable and comfortable place to stay in Belize City, then this Belize vacation rental is up at a fair price. It’s on a pretty sleepy street, so don’t worry about being kept up all night. That being said, it’s only a short walk from the city centre, so you won’t be spending half your trip stuck on the bus!
Best Budget Hostel in Belize City: The Red Hut Inn
A short ride from the centre of the city, this hostel is ideally located for exploring Belize. It is situated in a safe and quiet neighbourhood and the beach is just a stone’s throw away. They provide comfortable and spacious rooms with A/C, a nice common area, and clean cooking facilities.
Best Hotel in Belize City: The Great House Inn
The Great House Inn wins my vote for the best spot in Belize City. This centrally located hotel has four-stars and is ideally located in the city. It is close to great restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. They provide spacious rooms, a terrace, a BBQ area and an on-site Caribbean restaurant.

- Explore the Mayan ruins of Altun Ha.
- Go cave tubing at Jaguar Paw, a tropical stream in the Branch River.
- Explore the Lamanai Maya Ruins.
- Learn about Mayan history at the Museum of Belize.
- Go snorkelling over The Great Blue Hole, a giant marine sinkhole off Belize’s caribbean coastline.
- Take the kids to the Belize Zoo and see all the local wildlife.
2. Caye Caulker – Best Place to Stay in Belize on a Budget
Caye Caulker is a small island located off the coast of Belize. It measures just 8.2 kilometres in length and is home to a laid-back population of 1,300.
The Island boasts a plethora of outdoor activities and is an ideal destination for scuba divers, snorkelers and sun seekers, alike. It is set close to the incredible Blue Hole where you’ll see many fish, sharks and coral as you swim and dive, exploring deep beneath the waves.
With its relaxed atmosphere and relatively cheap prices, it is also a popular destination with budget backpackers and cost-conscious travellers. Here you can enjoy all the perks of paradise without breaking the bank.
Money aside, staying in Caulker means that you can choose from everything – wild nightlife, relaxing holidays or crazy snorkeling and nature adventures. There is nothing this charming place can’t offer you. Definitely worth checking out!
It doesn’t really matter where you’re staying in Caulker, paradise and lots of great spots are pretty much guaranteed. If you are happy with laying on a bean bag all day while stepping up your tan game, I’d recommend staying as close to the beach as possible. For all those that want to explore Caulker a bit more, you should stick with Hostels to find like-minded travellers that can join you on your adventures!

Jump straight off the water taxi into this adorable guest house. Sprawl out in the communal chill spaces and gardens, and swap stories with like-minded travellers who also found this oasis in paradise.
Best Hotel in Caye Caulker: Tropical Paradise Caye Caulker
Colourful, comfortable and impeccably clean – this is without a doubt one of my favourite hotels in Caye Caulker. This great resort is located at the heart of the island. It is close to restaurants, shops, and is just steps from the beach. They offer free wifi, a ticket service and a cosy lounge bar.
Best Hostel in Caye Caulker: Travellers Palm Backpackers Hostel
This hostel is conveniently located in Caye Caulker. It is set within walking distance of shops and the ocean. Rooms are well-stocked with a fridge/freezer, and free tea/coffee, wifi and purified water. There’s also a rooftop terrace with beautiful views. All of this combined makes this my pick for where to stay in Caye Caulker.
Travellers Palm Backpackers Hostel is one of our favourites in Belize but they’re not taking guests right now. We’re not sure if they’re closed for good but we hope they’ll come back soon.

- Snorkel in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
- Sip cocktails in a beach bar all day.
- Head out on a diving tour of the Caye Caulker Marine Reserve or the nearby Belize Barrier Reef to see nurse sharks and rays.

San Pedro is the most prominent town in Ambergris Caye. It is a small but bustling village that offers delicious cuisine and sightseeing experiences. It is also where you’ll find the best and brightest nightlife in Belize. From relaxed pubs to lively clubs, San Pedro is my pick for where to stay if you’re looking for a little after dark fun!
Keep in mind that there normally comes a higher price with a more popular place. It’s still a spot that is worth checking out, but for all the money-conscious travellers, this area should be enjoyed for only a limited amount of time.
Partying is great, don’t get us wrong. But having a comfortable bed and some privacy to cure your hangover is worth even more. When visiting San Pedro, and you know you’ll be joining the nightlife quite a bit, I’d recommend looking out for budget hotel rooms or private apartments. Nothing is worse than having a loud bunk buddy when you’re trying to recover from the last adventure.
However, if you’re travelling alone, choosing a hostel might be a great option to meet new friends and head out together. Choose your priority and pick your accommodation accordingly. It’s also a good idea to ask your host or accommodation for tips on local hotspots and guided tours.

As Corozal is getting busier and busier due to the rising popularity, especially amongst backpackers, you want to make sure you book your accommodation well ahead. Staying in San Ignacio means adventure, relaxation and an enjoyable holiday – but only if you book the right accommodation. Your place can be the make or break of your trip, so choose wisely. Since it’s a very peaceful area, it’s incredibly suited for families.
