I sincerely reckon Mykonos was half the reason for the Euro crisis.

How can anyone possibly work when the streets are like a tasty German fairy-tale, and the beaches are more attractive than an entire cast of Too Hot to Handle?

Mykonos is surely a source of economic ruin.

However, their hospitality industry seems to run fine, and there is a wide ranging collection of Cycladic homes, private pools, and patches of dirty heather (hello backpackers) available.

But which ones are the best?!?!?

In my FRANKLY UNFAIR guide to where to stay in Mykonos, the top gorgeous homes, stylish apartments and grubby grasslands are ready for your inspection…

Let’s rock.

    Where to Stay in Mykonos

Mykonos is a shining gem of the Greek Isles. It attracts fashionable couples, adventurous families, and a string of slightly stale people backpacking through Greece. Inevitably.

    Cycladic House #InTheHeartOfMykonos

Location, location, location they say, and they are completely correct. This Airbnb is owned by an artist, and it shows!

Best Hostel in Mykonos: Mycocoon Hostel Mykonos

    Mycocoon Hostel Mykonos

The best hostel in Mykonos is kind of also the only hostel in Mykonos (although we still have a Mykonos hostel guide for some reason). With funky architecture and design, your stay will not only be budget-friendly, but it will be a unique experience that you will rave about for many years. Rooftop terrace parties people?

There is a pretty awesome pool and bar on-site, and they rent ATV’s downstairs!

    Amazon Suites

Located just a six-minute walk from Agios Ioannis Beach, this collection of spacious rooms is equipped with stunning infinity pools overlooking the Aegean Sea. FOR FAMILIES

    Platys Gialos

Platys Gialos is our best recommendation for where to stay in Mykonos with kids. It is located on Mykonos’ southern coast and is well-known for its soft sand beaches and gentle waves, perfect for travellers of all ages and swimmer of all abilities.

Mykonos is a popular and luxurious island in the Cyclades group of the Greek Islands. It is set in the stunning Aegean Sea and is famous for its whitewashed buildings, mind-blowing beaches and its fresh and delicious food.

A cosmopolitan travel destination, Mykonos attracts travellers looking for a luxury vacation where they can lounge on its golden sandy beaches, swim in its glistening turquoise waters, and enjoy some of the liveliest nightlife at the beach clubs.

That doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for the backpackers, though! As one of the best places to visit in Greece, Mykonos is also home to a healthy number of budget stays too.

If it’s your first time visiting Mykonos, I recommend staying in the Old Port neighbourhood. It’s quintessentially Greek, with whitewashed buildings and incredible sunsets, but it is also centrally located near some of the best attractions. Plus, you can find some less expensive accommodation options if you’re backpacking Greece on a budget.

    Mykonos outdoor seating with sea
That is a great seating area

Then there’s Mykonos Town. Also known as Chora, Mykonos Town is set at the centre of the action. It’s where you’ll find the vast majority of the island’s most famous tourist attractions and landmarks.

Little Venice is located a short walk from the centre of Mykonos Town. It’s the best area in Mykonos to stay in for nightlife because it has so many world-class beach clubs, beach bars and restaurants.

Platys Gialos is situated on the south coast. It’s famous for its beach, but it also has access to other south-coast beaches on the island which makes it the perfect place for beach getaways. It has soft sand, gentle waves, and plenty of coves to explore. There are a ton of awesome Airbnbs around here too!

And finally, Elia is an exclusive and high-class area that offers travellers a luxurious and beautiful setting off-the-beaten-path. Here you can sit back, relax and enjoy paradise without the crowds of tourists.
